DAY ON A PLATE: GEORGANICS

So excited to start my day on a plate series on the blog! I have selected a few of my favourite healthy inspos that I just can’t get enough of! First up is Georgia from georganics. I am forever jealous of her family who get to sit down to her amazing meals every day. Her posts never fail to make me hungry and she was one of the first people to inspire me to make my blog! My name is Georgia Gazal, I am 24 years old and have just finished my first year of full time work in marketing. I started my blog georganics.net back in 2014 as a passion project after discovering the benefits of eating nutritious and wholesome food. My Approach to Health and Wellness:

I am a big believer in that we should be eating what makes us feel good on the inside and this will be unique for everyone. Setting yourself unrealistic goals that require restriction and deprivation with the only end-goal of losing weight is completely unrealistic. Health to me encapsulates so much more then that and a healthy weight is just a positive consequence of looking after yourself and eating nutritious, wholesome food. I love to eat lots fresh fruit and vegetables, leaving out all processed foods, refined sugar and gluten as much as possible during the week. However, on the weekends, I love to indulge in some of my favourite foods such as pizza, ice cream and a few cocktails. A favourite quote: everything in moderation…. including moderation!

DAY ON A PLATE:

Breakfast: 

Warm water with fresh lemon juice

Porridge with banana, berries, cinnamon, almond butter and maple syrup

OR a smoothie with with a plant-based protein powder, banana, spinach and berries.

Mid-morning:

Almond milk latte

Lunch:

Chopped salad with mixed lettuce, cherry tomatoes, goats cheese, capsicum, carrot, cucumber, sprouts and a protein, either tinned organic beans or tuna.

Afternoon snacks:

Veggie sticks with hummus, Scoop it Up bliss ball 🙂 or activated Tamari almonds

Dinner:

Dinner is always different depending who cooks. But my favourite is grilled John Dory with a green salad and roast veggies!

After dinner:

A chamomile tea and one date stuffed with peanut butter (literally the best thing ever).

RECIPE: My Favourite Chopped Salad with Pesto Cannelloni Beans

As described above, I usually have a chopped salad for lunch. While this recipe may seem simple, it is the perfect salad to get your ‘five’ a day and easily transports to work or uni. Here is the recipe to my all time favourite.

Serves 1

Ingredients

For the salad:

1/2 Lebanese cucumber

1/2 carrot, skin peeled

1/2 capsicum

Handful cherry tomatoes

Handful of mixed lettuce

Small handful of salad sprouts

1 tbsp goats cheese

1/2 tin organic cannelini beans, drained

1 tsp pesto (look for varieties that have clean ingredients or make your own)

For the dressing:

2 tbsp olive oil

Juice of 1/2 lemon

Dried chilli flakes

Salt and Pepper

Firstly, dice the cucumber, carrot, capsicum and tomatoes into small cubes and place in a mixing bowl. Next, shred the lettuce and add to the bowl. Then, toss through the goats cheese and salad sprouts.

In a separate bowl, combine the pesto and cannellini beans until the beans are well coated. To make the dressing, put the ingredients in a small jar and shake to combine. The mixture should turn almost a bit creamy.

To serve, either place the salad in a bowl or container and pour the beans on top. Finally, pour on the dressing (only put this on right before you are about to eat it) and give a last toss before eating.
